Mapping & GIS

Bi-State’s Mapping and GIS services extend to a wide variety of mapping projects. Staff collects and/or creates geographic data from many sources and uses this information to produce high quality cartographic products, including:

  • Base, zoning and land use maps
  • Water, sewer and other utility maps
  • Street and highway maps
  • Natural resources maps, with such features as recreation trails, greenways, floodplains, soils, parks, etc.
  • Digital aerial photographs and topographic maps
  • Special district maps: fire, school, political, taxing, historical, floodplain, transit, etc.
  • Site plans for grant applications and other programs
  • Location maps for special events, promotions or brochures
  • Special studies maps - traffic counts, traffic accident rates, census tracts, radius studies, county address systems

Many cities and villages in the five-county Bi-State region depend on Bi-State’s Mapping services to keep their base, zoning, water or sewer system maps up-to-date. Bi-State staff can also access geo-data from many of the county-wide Geographic Information Systems (GIS) through data sharing agreements. Minor or routine updates are provided as part of membership services, but more extensive updates will be provided to members on an "at cost", contractual basis.

The Data/Graphics/Mapping Center also distributes various local and regional maps, which are available to the public at minimal cost.
