The CPI is used as an indicator of inflation, a deflator of other economic series, and as an escalator for income payments.
Nation, State, County & Regional employment statistics
Employment Statistics are derived from the Iowa Workforce Development, Illinois Employment Securities, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Most data are not seasonally adjusted and thus do not take into account predictable non-economic events that impact employment statistics. Examples of seasonal events include changes in government employment due to the beginning and ending of the school year and declines in Construction industry employment in January because of cold weather. Official sub-state labor force estimates (i.e. metro areas, counties, and cities) are not seasonally adjusted, primarily because statewide adjustments to employment and unemployment limit the ability to isolate and predict local seasonal events.

United States economic Census
The US Census Bureau’s Economic Census provides data at the state, MSA, county
and place levels about how many different types of businesses exist in a
community, how much money these businesses make, and the race or ethnicity of the business owner. The most recent data available is from the 2002 Economic
Census. The 2002 Economic Census was finished in early 2003. But data will continue to become available through 2004. http://www.census.gov/epcd/www/econ97.html
